APRS means :

AUTOMATIC POSITIONING REPORTING SYSTEM

Using a transceiver (transmitter-receiver), a packet  modem (TNC or Baycommodem) and a PC, you can send your coordinates, so another station can see on a map where you are.

Connecting a GPS receiver to the modem, you can be mobile QRV.

There are several programs available for APRS. UI-VIEW from Roger Baker G4IDE is used a lot.

When using several TNC's or Baycom-modems, you need an intermediate program.

The PACKETENGINE from SV2AGW is necessary.

In combination with a GPS receiver and a normal transceiver, you only need a TINY-TRAK to go mobile in APRS. The hart of theproject is a  PIC-processor ( PIC 16F84-10/P). You can build it for only 25 Euro. More info about Tiny-Trak surf to: www.byonics.com. I built it with succes. You can follow me yet mobile as ON1BVK-9.

WHAT DO YOU NEED FOR APRS?

A transceiver for 2 metres (144.800 MHz), portable, mobile...

The program UI-VIEW

When using a Baycommodem, you need the AGWPE program.

Preferences for AGWPE and UI-VIEW using a BAYCOM-MODEM:

The 1200 Bd Baycom-modem is NOT to be used with Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP!!!!

FIRST: Unzip DRIVERS.ZIP in the directory AGW and then install AGW!!!

AGWPE:  1. Start AGWPE .
                 2. Right click on Packet Engine.
                 3. Choose Properties: When there is nothing in  Select RadioPort, choose New Port.
                                                  otherwise click OK.
                 4. Choose TNC SETUP and select the COM-port you want to use.
                 5. At SerialPort/modem Baudrate choose 1200. With Baycom everything

Baycom-modem if connected. You can only connect 2 Baycom-modems
but it is possible to connect several TNC's and it is even possible to combine it with a
                     Baycom-modem!
               12. Then select TNC COMMANDS.

so he knows you are using UI-View
NOT checked= Your call will be labelled white, this means

                           * Fixed: Time for Beacon-interval.
                           * Mobile: Can only be used together with a GPS-receiver.
                 5. Click OK.

Some hints when problems occur with AGW:

Hint 1 : before the use of AGW Packet Engine with Windows 95, you need to install
the  Winsock update. Therefore you need the file w95ws2setup.exe. (see downloadpage)
First you have to check if the TCP/IP-protocol is installed on your computer.
Look in "Configuration > Network" if it is already installed and if not do so.
Now you can start w95ws2setup.exe and reboot the computer.
AGWPE should work now.

Hint 2 : When you choose a COM-port in AGW Packet Engine,
it happens AGWPE doesn't find the adres and the IRQ of the chosen COM-port the
registry. In that case you  have to change it in "Configuration >
System ". Delete the port(s) and afterwards add them again.

When you do know the adress and IRQ you can fill it out in AGW yourself.
COM 1 = 3F8, IRQ 4
COM 2 = 2F8, IRQ 3
COM 3 = 3E8, IRQ 4
COM 4 = 2E8, IRQ 3

                                              Good Luck
